About the conference logo
The logo for the XVth ICBS conference draws inspiration from the sweeping plant-like curves so characteristic of Art Nouveau. In the period between the last few years of the 19th century and the First World War, this style was to have a profound impact on the development of architecture and the Decorative Arts in most Western countries. In Brussels, Victor Horta was its figurehead. This genius architect and his disciples left lasting and outstanding traces in the city, including the museum now housed in what used to be the master's workshop.
Beyond this historical reference, the drawing also features the iris motif, the symbol of the Brussels, which is hosting the conference. Soft lines, going off in different directions, can be seen to finally converge, just like all those attending this international meeting.
